Báb’s Martyrdom in Tabriz!

July 9, 1850:

In Naser al-Din Shah Qajar era, followed by Amir Kabir’s order, The Supreme Lord! (a.k.a. Báb) and Anis were executed by shooting in Sarbazkhaneh Square in Tabriz in July 9, 1850 (Tir 18, 1229 SH1 – Sha’ban 28, 1266 AH2). During this historical event, after the first shooting by Armenian Sam-khan and his royal troops containing 750 soldiers in 3 rows, 250 soldiers each, Báb was not killed. After the smoke and gunpowder dust settled, they found out that Báb has been disappeared. Sam-khan brought his troops and Agha-jan Beik Khamse-ee the brigadier of troops, was ordered to arrest Báb which led to the martyrdom of him! This time after shooting, because of the shooting Báb and Mohammad Ali’s chests became one and their faces were slightly injured.

The writer of Bahá’i Events and Calendar website, have not clearly mentioned the reason for killing Báb. In Sha’ban 1264 AH in Tabriz, Báb denied his claim about Succession of Imam of the era, however it is not cleared in this article that why Báb was sentenced to death two years after Amir Kabir and scholars and the prince were convinced?

The next point is that the writer has exaggerated on the details of Báb’s execution without giving any reference. It is very unlikely that 750 soldiers had been ordered to execute one person by shooting. And it was not cleared whether they firstly hanged Báb or executed him by shooting.

The next point is the dispute over what happened to Báb’s body after execution. If he was executed in Iran and buried in Haifa, it is not clearly explained how the body reached Haifa from Tabriz. As Arthur comte de Gobineau wrote in his book ‘Les Religions et Les Philosophies dans l’asie centrale’ in chapter 10 and as Muslim historians said, Báb’s body was put in a moat outside Tabriz and became the food for wild animals. However, Bahá’is say his body was stolen by Soleyman-khan Afshar from the moat – who had been ordered from Mirzá Husayn-Ali (previous reference) – and was transferred to silk weaving factory of Haj Ahmad Milani Bábi and then to Tehran. After a long period (around 60 years) it was transferred to Haifa and buried at a special place (Báb’s Shrine).
